We are... Creative!

On Friday we had Genius Hour with a focus on being creative! Afterwards we had a think about where we would fit on the Creative Matrix. Miss Crowther was really impressed with how honest and reflective we are about our own creativity. We were awarded a Bronze, Silver or Gold medal depending on our self assessment.
We love our new medals!! We were so keen to show them off that we all wanted to stay in and get a photo after the bell had gone for lunchtime! Lots of us are now eager to earn the next medal so will keep checking our creative thinking against the matrix.

We love being Creative!

Me and my Shadow!

Last week LC15 and 16 received a letter from our shadows. The letter asked us if we could find ways to use our body to make our shadows look more exciting! We had lots of fun trying out some creative poses with our groups. Here are some photos of us getting creative!

Noah's Story

It was a dark and stormy night. Tom and Zak were going tramping. They were in the hut and fast asleep. Then... Suddenly they heard some creaking so they tip toed out into the spooky forest. They shivered and ran down the path. The did not see the path end. "Where are we?" said Tom. "I don't know" said Zak. "Arhhhhhh!!" Zak screamed. Zak was 6 and Tom was fourteen. "We are lost". They ran some more and came to a clearing and found a castle. "Yay!" They went in the castle and heard some talking. They followed it but the castle was falling apart. The people all ran for their lives but... a dragon came and took Tom and Zak home. When they got home they said "What an adventure". "What adventure?" said Mum. "None of your business".

Book Character Day!

What a fun day we had on Friday! We were lucky enough to have Terry from the library come and read us a couple of Books written by NZ authors. Just before morning tea we had a parade so everyone in the school could see our super cool costumes. Well done to Liv who was picked by Mrs Kenyon for a special prize!
The teachers were so impressed with how well we all dressed up!!

Greater Than and Less Than!

Today in Maths we learned about less than, greater than and equal to. We all got into a group and then we found some things in the class to make sets to compare. Miss Crowther gave us some crocodile mouths and then we had to make two groups and decide which crocodile goes in between.
We learned that the crocodile mouth is open towards the biggest number!

Pattern and Algebra!

For the first 2 weeks of Term 4 we have been learning about Pattern and Algebra. We have been doing lots of fun activities in class to practice what we are learning!

We are fantastic at making patterns and saying the rules. For example if a pattern was orange, orange, banana, orange, orange, banana the rule would be AAB.

You could help us practice at home by making patterns with anything around the house (pegs, cutlery, our toys etc) and getting us to tell you the pattern's rule!

Welcome to Term 4!

We have had a GREAT start to term 4! Check out how awesome we were on the first day back. We all had ourselves sorted and sitting beautifully on the mat ready for the roll as soon as the 9 o'clock bell rang! We are amazing self managers, what a way to start off the term!

Miss Crowther was so impressed. She sure is lucky getting to teach us :-)

Our Holiday Maps!

We had a great first day back at school today! Miss Crowther and Mrs Lunn were super impressed with how onto it we were after the holiday break. We really are pretty awesome ;-)

Instead of 'normal' Writing today we drew maps of somewhere we visited over the holidays. We had to label our maps and could write little notes or a big story to go with it. We loved doing this and our teachers thought we did a great job!

THANK YOU!!

For our Market Day yesterday we managed to raise a whopping $468.70 for the Ronald McDonald House! This is amazing and even more than our teachers expected! We want to say a HUGE thank you to all the families that supported us and our Market Day! :)

OUR MARKET DAY!!

WOW! What an amazing day we have had. Today in Piako 2 we finally hosted our Market Day! We have been working so hard all term to learn all about needs and wants, social responsibility, economic roles, branding, and advertising as well as using the information we learnt to both choose and make our products to sell.

Our hard work paid off today! Everyone LOVED our products and almost every stall sold out! We loved having the opportunity to be both retailers AND consumers today, lots of us went home with goodies we had purchased.

We have had the BEST DAY!!!!!!

Social Responsibility

Last week in Piako 2 we learned all about Social Responsibility. We WONDERED what we could do with our own profits from Market Day that could help other people. We brainstormed lots of different ideas together and eventually voted on what we thought was the best option. The charity with the most votes was the Ronald McDonald House! This charity is very important to us in Piako 2. Some of us have even stayed there ourselves when our siblings or family members have been sick.

We can't wait to see how much money we can raise for them!

TIME AND TEMPERATURE!

Over the next two weeks half of our Maths Sessions will focus on the Measurement Strand of the Maths Curriculum.  We will be looking at Time and Temperature.  We will be learning the days of the week, months of the year, and seasons.  We will learn how to tell the time using analogue clocks initially and depending on how flash we are, we might even learn to tell digital time.

You can help us at home by making us aware of what time it is, what time we need to leave to come to school, when is tea time etc.  You might like to tell us how long we have to get ready, or eat our tea.  Putting the timer on the microwave to countdown while we do something helps us realise how long ten minutes is for example.

In the other half of our lessons, we will continue to do our Strategy and Knowledge workshops with the teachers.  In Strategy we are still focusing on Multiplication and Division and for Knowledge this week we are looking at Grouping and Place Value (ie How many tens are there in 30)

Thanks for helping us in our learning journey - our teachers really appreciate it!

The Animal Show!

We had a GREAT time on Friday at Pounanu Atawhai's Animal Party. We got to learn all about the SPCA and were fully entertained by some talented comedians, singers/dancers, gymnasts and even some real life animals. Noah, Bailey, Olivia and Sephia were all lucky enough to be chosen to stand up and take part in some of the fun games the older children had planned!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated. Because of your generous donations Pounamu Atawhai were able to donate over $1000 worth of products to the local SPCA. Think of all the animals that will be helping!

Noah with his balloon dog, he did so well!
o
Micah and Dylan LOVED the comedians, they were in hysterics!

Olivia got up to play a balloon game too!
